The journey begins long before the first tiny squeak is heard. A Yorkshire Terrier mama carries her babies just over 2 months. Her belly rounding as the days pass. During this time she rests more, eats a bit extra, and seeks a quiet nesting area in a place she can feel safe.
As her whelping day approaches, she begins to nest. She turns in her bed, gathers blankets just so, and looks to her mama for reassurance. Each puppy arrives covered in a silky membrane, which mama carefully opens. She cleans each little body to stimulate breathing and circulation. It is intimate, instinctive work- every lick, nudge, and sound full of purpose.

In these first moments, the puppies' eyes are closed and their ears are sealed. They only know warmth, scent, and the steady comfort of their mother. Guided by nature, they crawl toward her and begin to nurse, drawing first milk rich with antibodies and strength. This early time is peaceful, tender, and meant to be protected.
At six weeks old, personalities begin to bloom. Curious eyes, tiny steps, and a heart that already knows how to cuddle. Learning the world one wobble at a time!
